Esta dissertação realiza um estudo a respeito da configuração da cidade e das interrelações deste fenômeno com a arte. Enfoca-se aqui a cidade industrial moderna de forma geral, preliminarmente, e a metrópole paulistana como objeto mais próximo. A abordagem de tal estudo dá-se através da observação dos processos de utilização das linguagens na materialização do ambiente urbano moderno e sua percepção.

This dissertation accomplishes a study regarding the configuration of the city and the relationship of this phenomenom with art. Preliminary, focusing on a modern industrial city in a general way, and then on the metropolis São Paulo as a closer object. The approach of such a study is done through the observation of the processes, the use of languages in the materialization of the modern urban atmosphere and the perception of it.
