Keywords in Portuguese
Ensino de astronomia
Ensino não formal
Espaço não formal.

PARK DEDICATED TO ASTRONOMY TEACHING: A NON-FORMAL EDUCATION APPROACH
Keywords in English

Non-formal education.
Non-formal spaces.
Abstract in English
Introduction: the individual qualification occurs through formal, non-formal and informal education. Formal education is guided by laws and rules established by the union, state and municipalities; non-formal education represents the interest of associations, institutions or social groups in self-management and knowledge acquisition; and informal education occurs spontaneously through personal's interaction with the world around. This dissertation seeks the convergence points and proposes a model of cooperation between a non-formal education space (astronomy teaching park) and the formal and informal education. Aims: to create and test a non-formal space for astronomy education and related areas, contributing to the formal education. Provide to schools a structure to be used by teacher(s) in astronomy teaching activities. Methods: In order to develop activities aimed to non-formal astronomy education and build the instrumentation needed to support activities scheduled for the park (named Academia do Saber Astronômico - ASA), four diagnoses were made: 1. diagnostic questionnaires with pedagogical directors or coordinators; 2. diagnostic questionnaires with high school students; 3. diagnostic questionnaires with teachers; and 4. visits to other non-formal spaces dedicated to astronomy education. To test the functionality of the ASA, two pilot tests were carried out: one with elementary and high school teachers; and another with elementary school students. Results: ASA activities were elaborated with the results obtained in the four diagnoses. ASA was opened for pilot visits and tested by teachers and students. The test results indicate that the park has achieved the objectives of contributing to formal education by offering a space that helps teachers in facilitate the built of practical knowledge and the development of students' skills in astronomy. ASA can also offer public visits that allow people to move freely through the space and interact with the park's activities. Conclusion: ASA was created and tested, proved to be a space with potential to contribute to the formal astronomy education through the proposed activities offered in the park.
