Abstract in English
The purpose of the study is to contribute to the Brazilian entrepreneurial ecosystem and to generate new systematized knowledge at the academic level, by exploring the factors that influence the venture capital funding decision-making process. According to questionnaires filled out by 41 venture capitalists who analyze startups and invest, the founding team, the business model and product, and resistance to threats are the most relevant factors, consistent with empirical evidence found in several studies from the US. A key contribution of this paper is its theoretical and practical analysis of how they make decisions about new investments in early-stage startups. The advancement of knowledge on decision-making processes regarding investments in early-stage startups is necessary, given the lack of this literature in Brazil and the impact of financing early-stage businesses with a strong growth potential of the economy and job opportunities in the country.
