Contexto e motivadores: O modelo de venture builder (VB) têm sido relatados como uma nova forma de criar negócios inovadores, mas ainda há pouco corpo teórico sobre o tema. A possibilidade de estudar de perto tal fenômeno traz uma oportunidade de pesquisa. Objetivo: Esta pesquisa visa propor um novo modelo de operações para uma venture builder. Para tanto, objetiva: (i) definir e diferenciar o modelo de venture builder em relação a outros modelos de criação de startups; (ii) analisar e propor uma arquitetura para seu modelo de operações descrevendo os aspectos mais relevantes de sua atuação; e (iii) propor uma estruturação melhorada do modelo de operações baseado em uma intervenção. Método: Os métodos usados são revisão sistemática de literatura seguida por Design Science Research (DSR) e pesquisa-ação. Resultados: Como resultado deste trabalho, foi possível analisar sistematicamente o referencial teórico sobre organizações de suporte à criação de startups e explorar seus modelos organizacionais. Sob o aspecto de modelo de negócios e especificamente o componente do modelo de operações, levantamos sete construtos principais. Em seguida, o trabalho permitiu conceber um artefato explicativo do modelo de operações de uma VB sintetizando estes construtos e aprimorar este modelo ressaltando as aplicações e novos achados com a intervenção em uma VB atuante. Limitações da pesquisa: São duas as principais limitações do estudo: (i) o pequeno e incipiente corpo teórico acadêmico sobre o tema, em especial sobre modelo de operações, e (ii) a aplicação da pesquisa em apenas uma empresa, o que permite ampliar o corpo teórico mas limita as considerações para outras VBs. Implicações práticas: Os resultados deste estudo a permitem uma nova abordagem para explorar e aprofundar a teoria sobre VB. Além disso, obteve-se maior concisão sobre aspectos importantes das VBs, sua diferenciação e especialmente sobre sua operação, o que pode auxiliar estudos futuros sobre este tipo de fenômeno do ecossistema de empreendedorismo inovador. Originalidade: Não foram encontrados estudos aplicados neste campo e estudos comparativos com incubadoras, aceleradoras, capitalistas de risco e VBs. Estudos sobre modelo de negócios das VBs e, mais especificamente, modelo de operações, são poucos.

Context and drivers: The venture builder (VB) model have been reported as a new way to create innovative businesses, but there is still little amount of references on the subject. The possibility of closely studying such a phenomenon presents an opportunity for research. Objective: This research aims to propose a new model of operations for a venture builder. To this end, it aims to: (i) define and differentiate the venture builder model from other startup creation models; (ii) analyze and propose an architecture for its operations model describing the most relevant aspects of its performance; and (iii) propose an improved structuring of the operations model based on an intervention. Method: The methods used are systematic literature review followed by Design Science Research (DSR) and action research. Results: As a result of this work, it was possible to systematically analyze the theoretical framework on the topic of VB, explore its business model, specifically the component of the operations model, with seven main constructs. Then, the work allowed us to design an explanatory artifact of the operations model of a VB synthesizing these constructs and, finally, to improve this model in an applied way, highlighting the applications and new findings with the intervention in an active VB. Research limitations: There are two main limitations of the study: (i) the small and incipient academic body of theory on the subject and (ii) the application in only one company, although consistent with the method, allows expanding the theoretical body but limits the considerations for other VBs. Practical implications: The results of this study allow a new approach to explore and deepen the theory of VB. In addition, greater conciseness was obtained about important aspects of VB, their differentiation and especially about their operation, which can help future studies on this type of phenomenon of the innovative entrepreneurship ecosystem. Originality: No applied studies in this field were found and only a few studies were found on the VB business model. Also none specifically address the operations model.
