Abstract in English
The aim of this dissertation is to evaluate the impact of the Brazilian Programa Saúde da Família - PSF (Familys Health Program) on infant mortality. It uses an infant health production function framework and panel data on municípios of São Paulo State for the years 1998-2001. The results indicate that expanded coverage of PSF leads to a reduction in infant mortality rates, although such estimated impact is relatively small.
