Desmatamento

Abstract in English
The increase in the number of settlements in the Legal Amazon is a central issue for policies to combat deforestation. The distribution of land and the promotion of family farming have stimulated production and local population density, which has been identified as a cause of the fall in forest cover in the region. Given this scenario, this work aims to analyze the effects of the Bolsa Verde Program in the fight against deforestation, specifically, for settlements in the Legal Amazon. The analysis, between the years 2002 and 2017, shows that the program was not very successful in the environmental proposal and, as opposed to, generated a slight increase in the average value of the increase in municipal deforestation of 14 km2 for all municipalities in the Amazon biome and 22 km2 for Pará. Only with the exclusion of the state of Pará from the estimates, deforestation is avoided at 49 km2. The creation of settlements did not prove to be a major problem for deforestation of region, only with a significant impact when considering the territories of the municipalities of Pará.
