Abstract in English
This thesis examines the inherent complexity and volatility in the global scaling of scale-ups, highlighting the need for risk control processes to enhance the viability and success of these companies. From a systematic approach, based on a clear set of steps and processes to be followed to identify and analyze the risks associated with international expansion, a conceptual risk management model specific to the global scaling of scale-ups is proposed, aiming to provide guidelines for improving this process. The adopted methodology encompasses an analysis of eight distinct case studies, based on interviews with key managers and documentation provided by the organizations. The collected data were analyzed following a qualitative research approach, which facilitated condensation and visualization, as well as the development and verification of conclusions. From this analysis, it was possible to propose a deductive-inductive model for the systematization of risks associated with the global scaling of scale-ups. This innovative model has the potential to significantly enhance the analysis and management of these risks, offering relevant practical implications for organizations in the process of international expansion. Furthermore, the comparative case studies bring social implications, aiding in understanding the risks associated with the global scaling of scale-ups. The most notable contribution of this thesis is the proposal of the Global Scaling Risk Model, an original and valuable model for the systematic analysis of risks in the global scaling process of scale-ups, providing a structured and replicable approach for other companies in the sector.
