Abstract in English
The concept of regenerative companies proposes the improvement of social-ecological systems (SES), ensuring their prosperity, in a co-evolutionary process. These developments are suitable for promoting transformations that mitigate the current social and environmental crises in Brazil and, in particular, in the Transamazônica. There is, therefore, a growing interest in deepening studies on regenerative companies, using the business model to understand their characteristics and strategies. The research problem is, consequently, to verify if and how the business model of cocoa companies operating in the Transamazônica presents characteristics that show its regenerative attribute with the objective of contributing to the improvement of the business model of companies that intend to be regenerative. This research is characterized as qualitative, which applied the study of multiple cases as a method. In this sense, four businesses in the cocoa sector located in the Transamazônica region, in the state of Pará, were selected for the study. Through observation and collection of primary and secondary data, it was possible to comparatively analyze the sampled cases. For this analysis, the Flourishing Business Canvas was adopted as a tool to support the construction of the business model of these enterprises. The principles outlined by Hahn and Tampe (2020) for regenerative companies were also used to understand the regenerative character of the cases and their strategies. The results obtained allowed identifying the companies analyzed as regenerative and suggest characteristics that can be absorbed by other enterprises that wish to benefit from the SSE. Through the use of the Flourishing Business Canvas, the research contributes to the characterization of a regenerative business model, in addition to expanding the studies dedicated to the nascent concept of regenerative companies and reducing the distance between theory and real cases. The contribution also includes helping to raise the awareness of civil society and government actors about the regenerative phenomenon and its application in business practices.
