Abstract in English
The Brazilian viticulture and wine industry was affected in the 1990's by a significant impact due to the new insertion of the country in the International context. Despite of this, there is the possibility of the national product to be asserted in the internai market and yet in some International markets. However, it persists a problem of coordination of the agribusiness system, how to adjust the amounts and the quality of the raw material to the commercial long dated policies especially that one of quality wines. In this way, in the Serra Gaúcha viticultural region there is a diversity of governance structures which supports the transactions between grape growers and wineries, including market, cooperativism, use of contracts, vertical integration and administrative mechanisms of incentive and control. The objective of this work is to compare these distinct governance structures based on the systemic point of view of the agribusiness proposed by Davis and Goldberg (1957) and on the Transaction Cost Economics that allows the test of hypotheses. The research do not reject the hypotheses of this theory because leads to a better performance of the governance structures which are more vertically integrated, as well as to the higher continuity in the transactions involving specific assets.
