O objetivo desta dissertação é descrever e analisar o crescimento da banca comercial no Brasil, durante o período 1964-1976. Ele usa uma abordagem de organização industrial e pretende melhorar a compreensão do problema. O setor bancário passou por grandes mudanças estruturais nesse período, quando mais de duzentos empresas desapareceram. O trabalho analisa o crescimento de sobreviventes bancos comerciais e seus efeitos na concentração. A variação dos logaritmos do tamanho dos bancos foi tomado como o melhor índice de concentração. A dissertação tem dois apêndices: o governo regulamentação sobre a expansão bancária e um banco comercial individual resumo de dados desde 1964.

The objective of this dissertation is to describe and analyse the conunercial banking growth in Brazil, during the 1964-1976 period. It uses an industrial organization approach and intends to improve the comprehension of the problem. The banking industry has passed through large structural changes in this period, when more than two hundred firms have disappeared. The work analyses the growth of survivor conunercial banks and its effects on concentration. The variance of banks size logarithms has been taken as the best concentration index. The dissertation has two appendixes: the governmental regulation on banking expansion and a conunercial banking individual data summary since 1964.
