O objetivo do presente trabalho é estudar porque o mercado de crédito não consegue atender de modo satisfatório a camada mais pobre da população, para a qual o crédito produtivo é uma importante fonte de geração de trabalho e renda. Essa análise é realizada à luz da teoria da informação, utilizada pela primeira vez nesse mercado por Joseph Stiglitz. Também se estuda como o mecanismo de aval solidário criado pelo Grameen Bank de Bangladesh, consegue resolver os problemas relacionados à informação assimétrica e ainda contribuir para a geração de capital social na comunidade em que o programa está inserido. Por fim. realiza-se um resumo da experiência nacional e internacional na área do microcrédito.

The goal of this work is to study why the credit market does not reach the poorest, for which the productive credit is important source for income generation. This analysis is accomplished by the theory ofthe information, used for the first time by Joseph Stiglitz. Also we study how the mechanism of solidary group created by Grameen Bank, of Bangladesh, solves the problems related to asymmetric information and still contribute for the generation of social capital in the community in which the program is inserted. Finally, it accomplishes a summary of the national and international experience in the area of microcredit.
