O presente trabalho pretende analisar os fatores e aspectos da economia e da sociedade patrimonial da África subsaariana que, sob uma perspectiva histórica e lógica, permite explicar a dinâmica que caracterizou a trajetória de crise na qual a região enveredou logo após a independência, especialmente entre 1960 e 1985. São analisadas as prescrições de solução da crise realizadas pelo Banco Mundial e o FMI, implantadas a partir da segunda metade da década de oitenta, os seus impactos sobre o crescimento da economia, sobre a pobreza e a proliferação da AIDS na região

This thesis aims to analyzing the social and economic aspects of the Sub-Saharan Africa. Following a logical and historical perspective, these aspects allow to explaining that characterized the crisis path the region went through just after its independence process, especially from 1960 to 1985. We analyze the solutions proposed by the World Bank and IMF, implemented from middle 80's on, as well as their impacts on economic growth, poverty and AIDS proliferation in the region
