O conceito de dualismo marcou a compreensão sobre o subdesenvolvimento na segunda metade do século XX, tendo grande repercussão tanto na Economia do Desenvolvimento quanto no debate econômico dentro da América Latina. A presente dissertação busca investigar o debate e as distintas formulações e críticas acerca do conceito - de W. Arthur Lewis à crítica marxista, passando pela CEPAL e pela Escola de Campinas -, bem como a compreensão dos autores sobre as possibilidades de superação do dualismo e, consequentemente, do subdesenvolvimento.

The concept of "dualism"' left its mark on the overall understanding of the phenomenon of underdevelopment in the second half of the twentieth century, both in Development Economics, as well as in the overall latin american economic debate. The present thesis investigates the debates and distinct formulations around this concept - going from W. Arthur Lewis to the marxist critics, passing through the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC), and the "Escola de Campinas" -, as well as the formulations around the possibilities of overcoming "dualism", and consequently underdevelopment.
