Com o crescimento e profissionalização do futebol nas últimas décadas, os clubes de futebol tem sido cada vez mais tratados como empresas - mesmo que com peculiaridades do seu setor. O objetivo desse estudo é avaliar como os atributos qualitativos dos jogadores se associam ao desempenho esportivo, econômico e financeiro dos clubes nos quais eles estão inseridos. A amostra inclui 62 clubes de futebol, dos quais 36 são europeus e 26 brasileiros. Os dados qualitativos dos atletas foram retirados do portal Transfermarkt e os dados financeiros da base Capital IQ da Standard&Poor's, quando não encontrados nos portais dos próprios times ou das federações responsáveis. Foram escolhidos 4 indicadores econômico-financeiros - Liquidez Corrente, Retorno sobre o Patrimônio Líquido, logaritmo natural do Ativo total (proxy para o tamanho dos clubes) e o Retorno sobre os Intangíveis, sendo este último uma proposta do próprio trabalho. Os indicadores esportivos escolhidos foram a colocação dos times em suas competições nacionais. A base foi separada entre jogadores que foram contratados pelos clubes e os que deixaram as organizações em cada janela de transferência, excluindo jogadores trocados. Através de análises por correspondência, pretendeu-se buscar inicialmente a associação entre os indicadores escolhidos e a quantidade de transações das equipes, para então avaliar a associação dos atributos qualitativos dos jogadores com os indicadores escolhidos. Observou-se ao final do estudo algumas associações relevantes entre os indicadores de desempenho e a quantidade de jogos em que os atletas foram relacionados, como times com indicadores ruins tenderem a contratar jogadores que de fato são relacionados posteriormente. Além disso, para os jogadores que deixaram seus clubes, encontrou-se uma associação entre atletas com gols sofridos (ou seja, os goleiros) e os indicadores dos times que eles representaram, revelando, por exemplo, que times mais bem colocados em campeonatos nacionais tendem a vender seus goleiros. Este trabalho amplia o debate sobre o papel dos jogadores no desempenho das equipes, considerando-se os atletas transacionados pelos clubes nas janelas de transferência e contribuem para as pesquisas na área de economia e finanças do esporte.

With the growth and professionalization of soccer in the last decades, the soccer clubs have been seen as companies with more frequency - even if their sector has its peculiarities. The objective of this study is to evaluate how the qualitative attributes of the players associate to the sportive, economic, and financial performance of the teams that play in. The sample includes 62 teams, of which 36 are European and 26 are Brazilian. The qualitative data of the players were taken from the Transfermarkt website and the financial data from the Capital IQ database from Standard&Poor's, when not found on the team's own website or on the responsible federation. The indicators chosen where the Current Ratio, the Return on Equity, natural logarithm of the Total Assets (as a proxy of the size of the clubs) and the Return on Intangible Assets, this last one being proposed by this work. The data was divided into players that were hired by the clubs and those that left the teams during the transfer window, excluding traded athletes. Using the Correspondence Analysis, this study intended first to seek an association between the financial and economic indicators the number of players transacted per season and secondly to investigate an association between the indicators and the qualitative attributes of the players. This work uncovered some associations regarding the chosen indicators and the number of times the athletes were at least benched, such as teams with poor indicators seem to have a tendency of hiring players that are at least present in game days. Moreover, for those who left their teams, this study found an association between acting players that conceded goals (that being the goalkeepers) and the chosen indicators of their teams, for example clubs better positioned on their national competitions have a tendency of selling their goalkeepers. The results seen in this work expand the debate over the role of the players on their team's performance and contribute for research in the sports economics and finance.
