Futebol
Governança

Abstract in English
In a modern competitive environment marked by the intensification of disputes on and off the field, governance mechanisms have become essential for professional football clubs to differentiate themselves from their competitors. The study investigated, through a multiple case study, different models of ownership (private, associative and publicly traded) in three large football clubs in different countries (Orlando City in the United States, Palmeiras in Brazil and Sporting in Portugal), analyzing dimensions such as function, size and independence of characteristic bodies of governance, such as the board of directors, fiscal council, audit committee and external audit. Among the findings, it was possible to point out the perception about the still incipient level of adoption of tools in the sports environment, mainly in the associative format, for reasons that include, for example, the cost. Additionally, the results indicate that governance and its mechanisms are presented as an opportunity for football sports clubs to improve their management, improving controls and supervision of their operations, contributing to the results and success of clubs in front of their stakeholders.
