Este estudo discute o processo de busca de novas oportunidades de negócios seguido por empresas brasileiras após entrevistar um grupo selecionado de algumas dessas empresas a partir de um referencial teórico preliminar. Para subsidiar o desenvolvimento deste estudo, o primeiro passo foi pesquisar estudos contemporâneos sobre o tema nas publicações disponíveis. Algumas questões foram consideradas importantes como: razões para buscar oportunidades, organização para buscar oportunidades, direcionamentos estratégicos, fontes de oportunidades, processo de identificação e seleção de oportunidades. Além da validação do referencial teórico preliminar aqui proposto, a conclusão deste estudo mostra a situação atual das empresas brasileiras em sua experiência com busca de oportunidades. Este estudo está sujeito a algumas limitações quanto ao cronograma e método de pesquisa utilizado e, por isso, não pode ser generalizado para o universo completo das empresas brasileiras. Apresenta os resultados, em forma de estudo de casos, das experiencias vividas no processo de busca de oportunidades de novos negocios das seguintes empresas: Ipiranga Comercial Quimica, Grupo Ticket e Metalfrio.

This study discusses the process of search for new businesses opportunities followed by brazilian companies after interviewing a selected group of some of these enterprises regarding a preliminary theorical reference schedule. In order to support the development of this study, the first step was to research contemporary studies regarding this theme in the available publications. Some issues were found to be important such as: reasons for searching opportunities, organization for searching opportunities, strategic directions, sources of opportunities, identification process and selection of opportunities. Besides validation of the preliminary theorical reference schedule proposed here, the conclusion of this study show the present situation of brazilian companies in their experience with search for opportunities. This study is subject to some limitations regarding the schedule and research method used and, because of that, it can not be generalized to the complete universe of the brazilian companies. It presents the results, in the form of a case study, of the experiences lived in the process of searching for new business opportunities at the following companies: Ipiranga Comercial Quimica, Grupo Ticket and Metalfrio.
