Neste trabalho buscou-se levantar a relevância do uso de Tecnologia de Informação (Tl's), no aumento da competitividade das PME's do Pólo Têxtil de Americana e Região. O principal critério foi a comparação empresas que sobreviveram e empresas que não conseguiram resistir ao impacto da entrada dos tecidos importados, especialmente os asiáticos. Na forma de estudo exploratório detectou-se: as alternativas que as empresas recorreram para suportar a abertura comercial; a necessidade de modernização de equipamentos e de gestão; a busca de utilização de Tecnologias de Informação (TI's) intra e extra empresa. O uso das Tl's representaram papel importante na sobrevivência das empresas, pórem não isoladamente, outros fatores como a descoberta de novos nichos de mercado, garantiram a continuidade das atividades enquanto os tecidos importados, que atingiram preponderantemente a moda feminina, extinguiu os tradicionais nichos de mercado que as empresas de Americana e região atuavam. Observou-se importantes temas de estudo a serem desenvolvidos a partir deste trabalho, no que tange a utilização das Tl's pela indústria têxtil e na otimização de recursos financeiros para este fim, pois para as PME's um recurso mal aplicado pode implicar no desaparecimento da empresa. Na conclusão apresentam-se algumas sugestões de temas que as próprias empresas entrevistadas indagaram quando na discussão dos resultados desta pesquisa, mostrando assim que apesar de toda a evolução tecnológica e fartas fontes de informações sobre esses recursos ainda ha muita dúvida qual o melhor caminho para utilização das Tl's no meio fabril têxtil a nível de PME's.

In this work it was tried to emphasize the use of Technology of Information (Tl's) in the increase of competitiveness of small and middle sized companies of the Textile Pole of Americana and region. The principal criterion was the comparison among those companies which survived and companies that didn't resist to the impact of imposted fabrics in our market, especially the Asians. In the form of exploratory study it was detected: the alternatives that the companies appealed to support the commercial opening; the need of modernization of equipments and of manager; the search of use of Technologies of Information (Tl's) intra and extra company. The use of Tl's represented na important role in the survival of the companies, however not separately, other factors such as the discovery of new market niches, guaranteed the continuity of the activies while the imported fabrics, that reached preponderantly the feminine fashion, extinguished the traditional market niches which the companies of Americana and region used to act. After having carried on this projet, it was observed important study themes to be developed about the use of Tl's for the textile industry and in the optimization of fianacial resourses to achieve this target, because for small and middle sized companies a badly applied resource can implicate in the disappearance of the company. In the conclusion they introduced some suggestions based on themes which the interviewed companies investigated during the discussion of the results of this research, showing that in spite of all technological evolution and full sources of Information on those resources there are still a lot of doubts about the best way to use the Tl's in the textile industry at small and middle sized companies.
