Keywords in Portuguese

Women and feminism on the agenda: breaking the ceilings or ignoring the shards?

Abstract in English
Feminism has different approaches that understand the existence of male domination in society. However, liberal feminism, associated with women's participation in the job market and their advance in companies appears to have become more widespread, and feminist ideas appear to have been appropriated by the neoliberal system. While more privileged women are able to break glass ceilings and occupy leadership positions, criticism points to the emergence of a care crisis and the occupation of leadership positions by women doesn't always have repercussions on organizational actions based on female emancipation. The present work aims to understand how feminism relates to women's leadership from the perspective of women leaders through critical discourse analysis of interviews and questionnaire survey. The results suggest that there is recognition of machismo, but not necessarily identification with feminism. The persistence of gender challenges despite organizational advances, and the conceptual understanding of feminism associated with the liberal perspective, suggest a weakness of the movement in acting within social structures of domination.
