Title in English
Effects of macronutrient deficiencies on the growth and mineral composition of Mocó (L) cotton plant (Gossypium hirsutum L. var. Maria Galante Hucth.)
Abstract in English
Mocó cotton plants about 60 days old were transplanted from sand to pots containing quartz sand and irrigated with Hoahland & Arnon modificaded, in relation to Fe supply. The experimental design consisted of randomized blocks with 7 treatments and 4 replications. The treatments were: 1. Complete nutrient solution 2. Minus nitrogen 3. Minus phosphorus 4. Minus potassium 5. Minus calcium 6. Minus magnesium 7. Minus sulfur. Clear cut deficiencies symptoms of nitrogen, potassium, magnesium and sulfur were observed. The morphological deficiencies symptoms of phosphorus and calcium obserived in the leaves were not in complete agreement with the symptoms of the literature reported. The main effects of the different treatments on the anatomical structure were: variations on size and shape of chloroplats and starch accumulation in the cells. At harvest time the plants were separated in upper leaves, lower leaves, stem and roots. Plants submitted to nitrogen and phosphorus deficiency remained stunted and presented the lowest dry weight upper leaves and stem. Plants Submitted to calcium deficiency presented the lowest dry weight root and lower leaves. The leaves presented the following mineral contents (% dry matter weight ): (See Dissertation) - (Attachments only available in print verson)
