Abstract in English
Sage (Salvia officinalis) is a medicinal and aromatic plant of great economic importance due to its medicinal properties, use in cosmetics, pharmaceuticals and in the food industry. UV-C light has been used as a germicidal action, in addition to acting as an abiotic stress in plant tissues activating the secondary metabolism of plants. The objective of this work was to evaluate the use of UV-C radiation as a treatment for sage seeds and verify the physiological, sanitary and secondary metabolism aspects of the species. For this, sage seeds exposed to UV-C radiation were evaluated at different radiation doses of 11,2, 16,8 and 22,4 kW/m2 and the control, not exposed to radiation. The following were evaluated: seed water content, germination percentage (PG), germination speed index (IVG), in addition to vigor (V), uniformity (U), length (C) of seedlings using the SVIS software and the reflectances of the seeds through non-destructive analysis of images produced by the VideoMeterLab equipment. In addition, seedlings from seeds treated by the SeedReporter equipment were evaluated verifying the chlorophyll a, cyanines and chlorophyll a fluorescence. Sanitary analysis was carried out according to the “blotter test” method. It was verified that the UV-C did not interfere in the germination process of the seeds, however, regarding the aspects of health and stimulus to the secondary metabolism, there was interference of the treatment of seeds with UV-C, which by hormetic effect, resulted in seedlings with higher levels of chlorophyll a and anthocyanins, in the treatment using 11,2 kW/m2. This demonstrates that this treatment has the potential to increase the production of anthocyanins and chlorophyll in sage.
