Regulador de crescimento

Plant growth regulator
Abstract in English
Dragon Wing Begonia has a significant market potential due to the beauty of its flowers, and the shape and brightness of its leaves, this species is employed as a potted plant, but to satisfy the quality standard of the potted flower market its growth control is required. Usually, growth inhibition occurs by apical topping and pruning, but these practices are considered outdated because of the necessary labor and high price. Plant growth regulators, such as Daminozide, are considered a helping tool in ornamental production, they inhibit the synthesis of gibberellins, but itis essential to verify the viability of the application of this product without causing phytotoxicity and adverse symptoms. Alternative components, such as Methyl Jasmonate and Ethanol, have been studied as they are considered more practical and non-toxic, but their morphological and anatomical effects on plants are unexplored. This study aimed to analyze the effects of the application of Daminozide (0, 2000, 4000 e 6000 mg.L-1), Methyl Jasmonate (0, 50, 100 e 150μM) e Ethanol (0, 2, 4 e 6%) on the growth, development and leaf anatomy of potted Dragon Wing Begonia. We conducted experiments as randomized complete blocks with four replications in a 2x4 factorial scheme, combining two varieties, Red and Pink, and four doses of each product, and evaluated growth parameters on plants and histological analysis on leaves. Daminozide only significantly reduced the height of Red variety on 4000 mg.L-1 application. MeJa decreased plant height and diameter in a quadratic way, showing the maximum reduction in 100 μM. Ethanol inhibited all variables, the highest dose (6%) was phytotoxic, and the medium dose (4%) negatively affected the flowering. The use of plant growth regulators also modified the leaf tissue of Red Dragon Wing Begonia. Daminozide decreased the upper epidermis, stomata dimension, and cluster area, while ethanol only modified the thickness of the mesophile. MeJa increased the thickness of the lower epidermis, reduced the mesophile, stomata dimension, and the number of stomata, and showed a lower number of calcium oxalate crystals. We recommend a concentration of 100 μM of MeJa and a solution with 2% ethanol for potted Dragon Wing Begonia production.
