Muitos fatores podem reduzir a produtividade do maracujazeiro, entre eles as doenças. Uma doença virótica que tem alto potencial de danos nos pomares e tem ausência de dados sobre hospedeiros e da relação vírus-vetor é a begomoviroses causada pelo passionfruit severe leaf distortion virus (PSLDV), transmitido por Bemisia tabaci MEAM1. Diante disso, os objetivos deste trabalho foram identificar a gama parcial de hospedeiros do vírus, avaliar a reação de plantas de diferentes espécies de Passiflora à infecção com o PSLDV, que poderá auxiliar em futuros programas de melhoramento e determinar os períodos mínimos de acesso à aquisição e inoculação do vírus por B. tabaci MEAM1, bem como a retenção do vírus no vetor. Plantas das espécies P. cincinnata, P. mucronata, P. malacophylla e de uma espécie selvagem não identificada foram resistentes à infecção com o PSLDV por meio da transmissão com B. tabaci MEAM1. Somente plantas de P. malacophyla e da espécie selvagem não exibiram sintomas e o PSLDV não foi detectado por PCR quando enxertadas em plantas de P. edulis infectadas com o PSLDV. Plantas de Datura stramonium, Nicotina benthamiana, N. clevelandii, N. tabacum cv. Xanthi, Solanum lycopersicum cv. Compack e de mandioca (Manihot esculenta), variedades IAC 118-96, IAC 6-01, Paranavaí, IAC 596, IAC 90 e IAC 14 foram suscetíveis à infecção com o PSLDV por meio da transmissão com B. tabaci MEAM1. Os ensaios para determinação dos períodos mínimos de acesso a aquisição (PAA) e inoculação (PAI) do vírus, bem como o tempo de retenção deste no vetor foram realizados em plantas de D. stramonium. Adultos de B. tabaci MEAM1 adquiriram o PSLDV após uma hora de alimentação em plantas infectadas de maracujazeiro e transmitiram o vírus após uma hora de alimentação em plantas sadias de D. stramonium, porém as taxas de transmissão foram baixas. A retenção do PSLDV no vetor foi de 14 dias.

Many factors can reduce passion fruit productivity, including diseases. A viral disease with a high potential for damage to passionflower orchards with lack of data on suscptible hosts and the virus-vector relationship is a begomovirose caused by passionfruit severe leaf distortion virus (PSLDV), transmitted by Bemisia tabaci MEAM1. Therefore, the objectives of this work were to identify the partial host range of the virus, evaluate the reaction of plants of different species of Passiflora to infection with PSLDV, which could help in future breeding programs, and determine the minimum virus acquisition and inoculation access periods by B. tabaci MEAM1, as well the time of virus retention by the vector. Plants of P. cincinnata, P. mucronata, P. malacophylla, and of one unidentified wild species were resistant to infection with PSLDV through transmission with B. tabaci MEAM1. Only plants of P. malacophyla and the wild species did not show symptoms, and the PSLDV was not detected by PCR when they were grafted onto PSLDV-infected plants of P. edulis. Plants of Datura stramonium, Nicotiana benthamiana, N. clevelandii, N. tabacum cv. Xanthi, Solanum lycopersicum cv. Compack and cassava (Manihot esculenta), of the varieties IAC 118-96, IAC 6-01, Paranavaí, IAC 596, IAC 90, and IAC 14, were susceptible to infection with PSLDV through transmission with B. tabaci MEAM1. The tests to determine the minimum virus acquisition and inoculation access periods by B. tabaci MEAM1 and its retention time in the vector were conducted in D. stramonium plants. Adults of B. tabaci MEAM1 acquired PSLDV after one hour of feeding on infected passion fruit plants and transmitted the virus after one hour of feeding on healthy D. stramonium plants, but transmission rates were low. The retention of PSLDV in the vector was 14 days.
