Abstract in English
This research addresses the difficulties encountered by immigrants when accessing SUS in Brazil. The initial hypothesis is that the issue of both law and health as local knowledge, related to the patient's culture of origin. Through field research and bibliographic studies it was possible to verify that there are innumerous difficulties in access to health by immigrants in Brazil, among them, difficulty with language, bureaucracy and in understanding procedures that are culturally diverse from their origin. The recommendations of Comigrar 2014 were to study and respond to these difficulties. This study concluded that it is fundamental that SUS users are aware of its functioning and that the health professional has an intercultural understanding of health and illness. However, despite the difficulties, the SUS is still the system capable of better serving the health population's wishes and promoting equity.
