Elevações significativas do nível do mar têm causado grandes transtornos em Santos, no litoral do Estado de São Paulo. Inicialmente, este projeto fez um levantamento das ressacas ocorridas em Santos, desde 1945 até 2013, incluindo a determinação dos níveis atingidos. Nesta fase inicial, características das ressacas foram analisadas, considerando sua frequência e intensidade, bem como suas correlações com as marés. Como solução para o problema das inundações, a proposta deste trabalho é de analisar a viabilidade da construção de um sistema de contenção de inundações, que seria ativado em caso de cheias, e que teria um impacto ambiental reduzido. Foram realizadas simulações numéricas oceânicas para os anos de 2016 e 2017, para determinar o comportamento hidrodinâmico na região, e assim se analisar a viabilidade da construção do sistema de contenção. Além disso, foi feito um estudo básico de impacto ambiental para a implantação deste tipo de projeto.

Significant sea level rises have caused major disturbances in Santos, on the coast of the State of São Paulo. Initially, this project surveyed the storm surges that occurred in Santos from 1945 to 2013, including the determination of the levels reached. In this initial phase, characteristics of the storm surges were analyzed, considering their frequency and intensity, as well as their correlations with the tides. As a short term solution to the flood problem, the purpose of this paper is to analyze the feasibility of constructing a flood containment system that would be activated in case of floods and would have a reduced environmental impact. Ocean numerical simulations were performed for the years of 2016 and 2017, to determine the hydrodynamic behavior in the region, and thus analyze the feasibility of constructing the containment system. In addition, a outlined environmental impact study was made for the implementation of this type of project.
