A pesquisa tem por objetivo analisar os processos que explicam os padrões de uso e ocupação do solo, bem como as formas de gestão de abastecimento de água no município de São José do Barreiro, que podem pôr em risco a segurança hídrica da população que ali vive. O município estudado apresenta fragilidades sociais e ambientais que comprometem a garantia de abastecimento hídrico com qualidade, quantidade e frequência. Tendo isto em vista, é importante compreender os processos políticos e econômicos que moldaram o modo como se dá a gestão do abastecimento de água, bem como as transformações ambientais que ocorreram ao longo da história e afetam a segurança hídrica da população, com enfoque no uso e ocupação do solo. Para atingir o objetivo da pesquisa se recorre a diferentes tipos documentais: planos de saneamento, documentos do Comitê de Bacia (CEIVAP) e entrevistas semiestruturadas com os representantes das autarquias municipais, responsáveis pelos serviços de abastecimento de água. Todo esse material foi analisado de acordo com os procedimentos metodológicos recomendados, de modo a favorecer a compreensão dos processos que podem levar a uma situação de insegurança hídrica.

The research aims to analyze the processes that explain the patterns of land use and occupation, as well as the forms of water supply management in the municipality of São José do Barreiro, which can jeopardize the water security of the population that lives there. The municipality studied has social and environmental weaknesses that compromise the guarantee of water supply with quality, quantity, and frequency. With this in mind, it is important to understand the political and economic processes that shaped the way in which water supply is managed, as well as the environmental changes that have occurred throughout history and affect the population's water security, with a focus on use and land occupation. To achieve the research objective, different types of documents are used: sanitation plans, documents from the Basin Committee (CEIVAP) and semi-structured interviews with representatives of municipal authorities, responsible for water supply. All this material was analyzed according to the recommended methodological procedures, in order to favor the understanding of the processes that can lead to a situation of water insecurity.
