Abstract in English
Sustainable development necessarily involves energy. Faced with climate emergencies, the demand for countries to achieve the conscious use of energy and the energy transition has increased. Given this scenario, the main objective of this research was to understand the performance of South America in favor of SDG 7, of the 2030 Agenda, with a focus on the electricity sector. In addition, the hypothesis that energy integration projects promote the achievement of these goals was tested. From the perspective of comparative politics, the conclusion was that the South American countries have advanced to different degrees towards the established objectives, distinguishing themselves among those that seek decarbonization through a more renewable matrix and; those who have already overcome this challenge and now intend to increase the participation of non-conventional energies. This dilemma is a reality in South America because of the intense representation of hydroelectric plants. Finally, it was seen that energy integration projects remain functional for the region by supporting the increase in renewable energy and expanding its electricity transactions via new transmission lines. Even the interconnections were the projects completed in the period analyzed, between 2015 and 2020.
