Abstract in English
In Brazil, until the end of this dissertation at the end of the second decade of this century, there were still 271 locations in the Isolated System (SISOL), that is, places not connected to the National Interconnected System (SIN), many of which had precarious access to electricity. These locations are mostly located in the northern region of the country, long distances from the capitals, in places of dense forests, so that their integration with the SIN does not exist. For each SISOL location, the sectorial regulatory agency, the National Electric Energy Agency (ANEEL), makes calls for auctions to attract investors interested in generating electricity that will be consumed locally. In order to meet the demand of 4.1 million MWh / year of energy from the 3 million people residing in the SISOL locations, the vast majority of thermal generation systems run by diesel oil are used. This implies a high final price for the energy generated, which exceeds 1,000 per R$/ MWh. In this context, the objective of the dissertation is, through a case study, to analyze the technical-economic feasibility of using a hybrid system, composed of photovoltaic technology associated with energy storage by batteries and complemented with thermal generators powered by diesel oil, replacing the exclusively thermal system powered by diesel oil that is commonly used in SISOL locations. The case study aimed to analyze the technical and financial parameters for power generation in isolated locations in lot BII of the 2nd Stage of Auction 02/2016 of the Isolated Systems of Amazonas. The analysis of the alternatives of electric power generation for supply in these isolated locations was based on the modeling of the Levelized Electricity Cost (LCOE). For that, characteristics were raised such as: the demand for cargo; global horizontal radiation; and the local annual temperature. To support the analysis, the literature on technologies for energy storage by batteries and on photovoltaic systems were reviewed, with a focus on the experience of countries where such technologies have achieved greater penetration. For simulations of the alternative architectures of the generation systems, computer simulations were performed in twenty selected locations of the Isolated System with the aid of the Hybrid Optimization of Multiple Energy Resources (HOMER) software. The results found indicate that 65% of the isolated locations managed to have a lower level of electricity cost, when compared to the exclusively thermal system powered by diesel oil. The locations with the lowest LCOE represent 97% of all energy demand in the 20 locations that were the subject of this study.
