Este estudo toma como objeto o Museu Histórico e Pedagógico Major Novaes, situado na cidade paulista de Cruzeiro, atentando aos impactos causados, no contexto de sua trajetória institucional, pela descontinuidade das políticas públicas de preservação do patrimônio edificado e museal. A análise abrange o caso singular deste museu, cuja sede foi alvo do primeiro tombamento estadual de São Paulo, bem como teve suas dependências e acervos desapropriados para que se garantisse uma ambiência de museu casa. As reflexões sobre a inserção do Museu Major Novaes no conjunto de museus históricos e pedagógicos paulistas permite investigar, a partir do exame dos procedimentos de salvaguarda e de ação museal, as fragilidades das esferas estadual e municipal no âmbito da gestão compartilhada do museu, quadro que se estende ao atual processo de municipalização, ainda em curso. A análise deste estudo de caso envolve, ainda, a confirmação de perda considerável do acervo inicial do MHPMN, bem como a constatação dos esforços curatoriais recentes para a ampliação dos referenciais de memória que motivam as novas exposições de longa e curta durações inauguradas em 2019.

This study is about Major Novaes Historical and Pedagogical Museum, the city of Cruzeiro, in São Paulo State, and the impacts caused by the discontinuity of public policies for the preservation of built heritage and museums, in the context of its institutional trajectory. The analysis covers the singular case of this museum, whose bulding was the first state listed by the Heritage Council in São Paulo State, as well as having its premises and collections expropriated in order to guarantee the ambience of a home museum. Reflections on the inclusion of the Major Novaes Museum in the set of historical and pedagogical museums in São Paulo allow us to investigate, based on the examination of the procedures of safeguard and museum action, the weaknesses of the state and municipal spheres in the shared management of the museum, a condition that can be perceived to the current municipalization process, which is still ongoing. The analysis of this case study also involves confirming the considerable loss of the MHPMN's initial collection, as well as the observation of recent curatorial efforts to expand the memory references that motivate the new long- and short-term exhibitions opened in 2019.
