Investiga a concepção e trajetória do Edifício Diederichsen, prédio construído no centro da cidade de Ribeirão Preto, em São Paulo, em meados da década de 1930, com projeto elaborado por Antonio Terreri e Paschoal de Vincenzo, contratado pelo empresário Antonio Diederichsen. Baseia-se na consulta e análise de documentos, como jornais, revistas, projetos de arquitetura, fotografias, mapas e leis. Considera o desenvolvimento de Ribeirão Preto até o final da República Velha, para a compreensão do contexto político, econômico e cultural durante a evolução dos negócios do promotor do Edifício. Concebe a idealização e execução do prédio como expressão de verticalização, de utilização de novos materiais construtivos, de experimentação de programa multifuncional e de uso de linguagem Art Déco. Examina o projeto do Edifício Diederichsen em seus diversos setores cinema, comércio, serviço, habitação coletiva e hotel diante de discussões e produções coetâneas no contexto local e em outros mais abrangentes. Analisa mudanças na ocupação do Edifício a partir de meados do século XX, à luz das transformações ocorridas no centro urbano de Ribeirão Preto. Estuda o processo de tombamento do Edifício Diederichsen pelo CONDEPHAAT, na última década do século XX, e as propostas posteriores de intervenção no prédio, avaliando o sentido das contradições entre sua valorização como bem cultural e sua crescente subutilização e degradação física.

It investigates the concept and history of the Edifício Diederichsen, built in the center of Ribeirão Preto (in the state of São Paulo) in the 1930s having been designed by Antonio Terreri and Paschoal de Vicenzo and ordered by the businessman Antonio Diederichsen. This project is based on the reference and analysis of documents such as newspapers, Architectural projects, photographs, maps and legislation. It considers the development undergone by Ribeirão Preto up to the República Velha period (1889 to 1930) in order to understand the political, economic and cultural contexts concomitant to the expansion of Diederichsens business. It also considers the idealization and execution of the building as an expression of verticalization, of utilization of new constructive materials, of experimentation of multifunctional programs and of usage of Art Déco language. It examines the project of the Edificio Diederichsen and its several sectors movies, commerce, services, collective housing and hotels through discussions and concomitant productions either local or global. It analyzes the changes in the occupation of the building from the 20th century on considering the transformations the urban center of Ribeirão Preto underwent. It also studies the process of listing of the Edifício Diederichsen through CONDEPHAAT during the 20th century and the previous intervention proposals on the building assessing the contradictions between its appreciation in terms of culture and its growing underutilization and physical degradation.
