Esta tese é dedicada a compreender a emergência de uma forma especifica da produção do espaço decorrente da generalização da racionalidade neoliberal. Com base em investigação sobre a experiências de resistência em três recentes ocupações de terra urbana, organizadas por movimentos sociais de luta por moradia no estado de São Paulo Vila Soma, Zumbi dos Palmares e Pinheirinho, nos municípios de Sumaré e São José dos Campos , descreve-se, por meio da reconstituição da trajetória dos conflitos, como ocorrem as relações de dominação em meio a produção do espaço, determinantes do bloqueio à possibilidade de democratização das cidades no presente. A análise revela, na autolimitação subjetiva dos indivíduos decorrente do imperativo da racionalidade neoliberal, e na intervenção permanente do Estado, o caráter paradoxal entre a governamentalidade e a sociedade governada, fatores que em conjunto sustentarão sociedades com imperativo regime de segregação, acumulação e concentração de riquezas.

This thesis is aimed at understanding the emergence of a specific form of space production on account of a generalized expansion of neoliberal rationality over contemporary society and its cities. On that matter, it will explore the trajectories of recent land occupations organized by social movements as resistance actions for their permanency in the urban space, in different metropolitan areas of the state of São Paulo: Zumbi dos Palmares, Vila Soma and Pinheirinho, in the municipalities of Sumaré and São José dos Campos. The description and analysis of the trajectories of these three occupations present, together, how the dominant reaction over space production blocks the possibility of building democratic cities; and, how cities are produced under the domain of neoliberal rationality, revealing the underlying tones of subjective self-limitation of individuals and permanent State intervention as parts of the paradoxical relationship between governmentality and the governed society, as premises that together sustain societies based upon an imperative regimen of continuous accumulation, segregation, and increased concentration of income and land ownership.
