Abstract in English
This study is about the hegemonic dispute between the United States and China. In this research, we seek to analyze the first episode of this clash, which took the form of a trade war, evaluating its effects on multilateralism and the Brazilian foreign policy. During the confrontation, we observed the predominant adoption of unilateral and bilateral practices by the superpowers, instead of the multilateral governance order and, therefore, we sought to clarify whether, as a result of the automatic alignment with the United States, promoted by the government that took over Brazil in the period of the conflict, there would have been changes in the foreign policy line from multilateralism to unilateralism and/or bilateralism, but we observe that despite the political alignment, the country maintained its multilateral traditions.
