Historicamente, a inserção internacional da América Latina se traduz em relações assimétricas com o centro global, caracterizadas pela dominação política e pela dependência econômica sofridas. Sob o sistema capitalista, essas relações ganham contornos específicos e passam a configurar um imperialismo dotado de especificidade, que conta com mecanismos mais sofisticados de dominação e apresenta uma orientação, predominantemente, voltada à acumulação econômica. Contudo, entende-se que a dinâmica imperialista tem passado por novas modificações, inclusive nas últimas décadas, acompanhando as transformações do capitalismo global e, ainda, do contexto regional latino-americano. Assim, o objetivo geral deste trabalho é compreender o que caracteriza a reconfiguração do imperialismo na América Latina durante o século XXI. Para atingi-lo, adota-se uma matriz teórica marxista e emprega-se o método de abordagem materialista histórico-dialético, o método de procedimento histórico e a técnica de pesquisa documental indireta. Ao longo do trabalho, estabelece-se um percurso analítico que parte de constatações abrangentes sobre o capitalismo e as teorias marxistas do imperialismo desde o início do século XX. Ao adentrar no debate contemporâneo sobre o imperialismo, é concedida ênfase às contribuições de David Harvey e de Ellen Wood. Depois, avança-se em direção ao entendimento do contexto regional no qual esse imperialismo opera, expondo-se duas tendências políticas que se sobrepõem temporalmente: a onda rosa (1998-2016) e a onda conservadora (iniciada em 2009). Tais tendências são associadas, respectivamente, com a ascensão tendencial de Chefes de Estado do espectro político de esquerda e de direita em países da região. Ao fim, parte-se para a análise da reconfiguração dos mecanismos econômicos e extraeconômicos do imperialismo, rearticulados entre si, que resulta em um entendimento do imperialismo contemporâneo na América Latina.

Historically, the international insertion of Latin America translates into asymmetrical relations with the global center, characterized by the political domination and economic dependence suffered. Under the capitalist system, these relationships take on specific contours and begin to configure an imperialism endowed with specificity, which has more sophisticated mechanisms of domination and presents an orientation predominantly focused on economic accumulation. However, it is understood that the imperialist dynamics has undergone new modifications, including in recent decades, accompanying the transformations of global capitalism and, also, of the Latin American regional context. Thus, the general objective of this work is to understand what characterizes the reconfiguration of imperialism in Latin America during the 21st century. To achieve this, a Marxist theoretical framework is adopted, along with the historical-dialectical materialist approach method, the historical procedure method and the indirect documentary research technique. Throughout the work, an analytical path is established, starting from a broad comprehension on capitalism and Marxist theories of imperialism since the beginning of the 20th century. Entering the contemporary debate on imperialism, emphasis is placed on the contributions of David Harvey and Ellen Wood. Then, it advances towards understanding the regional context in which this imperialism operates, exposing two political trends that overlap in time: the pink tide (1998-2016) and the conservative wave (started in 2009). Such trends are associated, respectively, with the tendential rise of Heads of State from the left and right political spectrum in countries of the region. At the end, from the analysis of the reconfiguration of the economic and extra-economic mechanisms of imperialism, rearticulated among themselves, are obtained results to understand the contemporary imperialism in Latin America.
