Abstract in English
This research assesses the role of regional organizations in democracy support. The analysis establishes the main factors in democratization. In order to do that, it identifies the importance of external and domestic variables. The argument highlights the key role of economic performance in this mechanism. Recent developments in the field of international politics have led to renewed interest in liberal internationalism and its relevance as the world faces democratic backsliding and rising populism. The empirical analysis empathizes the Latin American region in the post-Cold War period, drawing on the specific literature concerning the role of regional organizations in democracy support. The integration of methodologies includes the case study of Honduras; therefore, the quantitative approach is enriched to offer significant findings.
