Cultural war is a battle between a progressive-oriented left and a conservative-oriented right that conveys questions of a moral and social nature, about, for example, sexuality, race, behavior, religiosity, etc., but also, indirectly, economic and political themes. This research aims to investigate the existence of this cultural war in the French media debate about immigration. We sought to analyze opinion articles from two of the largest French daily newspapers, in terms of distribution, traditionally considered as representatives of different ideological hubs, Le Figaro, on the right, and Le Monde, on the left. The time lapse was from 2012 to 2017, between two presidential elections with essentially different results: in the first, there was an election of a candidate of a left party, François Hollande, of the Socialist Party, and, in the second, Marine Le Pen (candidate of the far right Rassemblement National, formerly Front National, known for its anti-immigration speech) has reached the second round. One selected all opinion articles from each of the aforementioned newspapers and lapse that contained the keyword "immigration", which resulted in a total of 433 articles analyzed. It was concluded that Le Figaro and Le Monde, quantitatively and qualitatively, represented opposite poles in the cultural war of the debate on immigration in France. Furthermore, the media, considering the two newspapers, reflected the same division observed in the political and citizen instances, in reproducing the same doxic aspects and rhetorical strategies that divide, in the country, the parliamentary and extreme right and the parliamentary left. From the language aspects, several constants were found that can be tested in the future in other corpora, contexts and genres of discourse in immigration debates.
