Abstract in English
The Biodiversity for Food and Agriculture (BAA) crisis the abrupt drop in plant species available for food production has negative effects both for world food security and for sustainable development and environmental preservation. Thus, it is important to study which factors influence this phenomenon in order to discuss how to reverse its consequences. International trade directly influences food production in the sense of promoting the homogenization of agriculture, which is one of the reasons pointed out by the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) as the cause of the crisis. The objective of this paper, therefore, is to investigate the relationship between these two themes: the International Trade Regime and the BAA crisis, based on the case study on the diversity of varieties of corn species in Colombia.
