Abstract in English
The caregiver of people affected by disabling diseases usually emerges from the family environment. This caregiver will have to change his or her routine to provide care and may experience physical and psychological reactions resulting from this activity. Therefore, the study objectives were: a) to analyze the Brazilian scientific production on family caregivers of patients in palliative care in the period from 2015 to 2019; b) to understand the family caregiver's perceptions of the care process of the elderly patient in palliative care during hospitalization. In the systematic review study, 55 articles were identified, 30 in the Virtual Health Library (VHL) and 25 in the Scientific Electronic Library Online (SciELO). To select the studies, the titles and abstracts identified in the initial search were evaluated according to the inclusion criteria. After the initial evaluation, 40 articles were excluded, of which 14 were duplicated in different databases. The final material for the study was 15 articles. The second study of this dissertation was carried out in the Geriatrics sector of a public hospital in the city of São Paulo. Seventeen family caregivers of the elderly in palliative hospitalized care were participating. A semi-structured interview and analysis of Bardin's content were performed to analyze the speeches. The results showed that being a family caregiver is often an involuntary task that generates both negative and positive repercussions and involves reciprocity and love. The participants also showed that exercising this care within the hospital allowed them to receive more support and help by sharing the responsibility of caring with the health staff
