O mundo do trabalho tem passado por profundas transformações, tornando-se mais intenso, flexível e precário, mediante ações em que se observa a retirada de direitos trabalhistas, o aumento da terceirização e da informalidade, a redução dos salários, a ampliação e flexibilização das jornadas, o enfraquecimento das ações sindicais e a valorização da ideologia do empreendedorismo. Os trabalhadores do turismo também foram afetados por essas metamorfoses, entre eles, os guias de turismo, a primeira e única profissão reconhecida e regulamentada do setor. Os guias de turismo são os profissionais que orientam, acompanham e transmitem informações aos turistas, proporcionam conhecimentos sobre a cultura local e sobre os atrativos a serem visitados. Ademais, atuam na mediação entre turistas, comunidade receptiva e empresas, sendo capazes de contribuir para a qualidade dos serviços turísticos e para a preservação da identidade e dos valores do destino. Contudo, pouco se sabe sobre as características do seu trabalho, no que tange o perfil do trabalhador, as dimensões e condições do trabalho, além da sua relação com tópicos da atualidade, como impactos da pandemia de Covid-19. Em razão disso, o objetivo principal desta pesquisa é caracterizar o trabalho do guia de turismo no Brasil e, especificamente, contextualizar a profissão em seus aspectos históricos e normativos, diferenciar o exercício profissional no Brasil e em outros países e, por fim, analisar a qualidade e as condições de sua atuação, identificando as principais manifestações de precariedade. Para tal, buscou-se uma proposta metodológica que produzisse resultados para subsidiar a prática transformadora da realidade. Por meio de pesquisa bibliográfica e documental sobre o mundo do trabalho e os guias de turismo, os temas foram contextualizados. Foram aplicados questionários aos guias de turismo do Brasil e de outros países, proporcionando a comparação do trabalho entre os territórios e identificando as diferentes formas de atuação. Com as entrevistas, compreenderam-se os diferentes aspectos do cotidiano desses profissionais, com detalhes sobre a rotina, comportamentos e experiências, viabilizando a identificação das contradições e dos conflitos que enfrentam, além das principais manifestações de precariedade do trabalho. Os resultados indicam que o trabalho do guia de turismo difere das outras Atividades Características do Turismo, especialmente no que tange às questões de faixa etária e escolaridade, no entanto, se assemelha em função das longas jornadas, baixos rendimentos, alta informalidade e estímulo à pejotização. Em suma, ao entender as características do trabalho do guia de turismo no Brasil, conclui-se que, apesar de ser uma profissão reconhecida e regulamentada, apresenta condições precárias, principalmente, em razão das longas jornadas e da alta informalidade que deixa os trabalhadores desassistidos dos direitos trabalhistas. Evidência dessa fragilidade foi vivenciada durante a pandemia, quando essa classe ficou completamente desamparada. Por fim, compreende-se que essa síntese se configura como nova problemática, portanto, é imperativo que se fomentem novas discussões sobre as condições de trabalho dos guias de turismo no Brasil, ao mesmo tempo em que se estimule a organização coletiva da classe para o combate à precarização do trabalho

The world of work has undergone profound transformations, becoming more intense, flexible, and precarious, through actions which one can observe the withdrawal of labor rights, the increase in outsourcing and informality, the reduction of salaries, the expansion and flexibilization of working hours, the weakening of union actions, and the valorization of the ideology of entrepreneurship. Tourism workers have also been affected by these metamorphoses, including tourist guides, the first and only recognized and regulated profession in the sector. Tour guides are the professionals who guide, accompany, and transmit information to tourists, providing knowledge about the local culture and about the attractions to be visited. Moreover, they act as mediators between tourists, the receiving community, and businesses, and are able to contribute to the quality of tourist services and to the preservation of the identity and values of the destination. However, little is known about the characteristics of their work, regarding the worker's profile, the dimensions and conditions of their work, besides its relation with current topics, such as the impacts of the Covid-19 pandemic. Because of this, the main objective of this research is to characterize the work of the tourist guide in Brazil and, specifically, to contextualize the profession in its historical and normative aspects, to differentiate the professional exercise in Brazil and in other countries and, finally, to analyze the quality and conditions of their work, identifying the main manifestations of precariousness. To this end, we sought a methodological proposal that would produce results to subsidize the transforming practice of reality. Through bibliographic and documental research about the world of work and tourist guides, the themes were contextualized. Questionnaires were applied to tourist guides in Brazil and in other countries, providing a comparison of the work between the territories and identifying the different ways of working. With the interviews, the different aspects of the daily life of these professionals were understood, with details about the routine, behaviors, and experiences, making it possible to identify the contradictions and conflicts they face, as well as the main manifestations of job insecurity. The results indicate that the work of the tourist guide differs from other characteristic activities of tourism, especially in terms of age and education, however, it is similar in terms of long working hours, low income, high informality, and encouragement of "pejotization". In summary, by understanding the characteristics of the work of the tourist guide in Brazil, we conclude that, despite being a recognized and regulated profession, it presents precarious conditions, mainly because of the long working hours and the high informality that leaves the workers unassisted of labor rights. Evidence of this fragility was experienced during the pandemic, when this class was completely helpless. Finally, it is understood that this synthesis configures itself as a new problem, therefore, it is imperative that new discussions about the working conditions of tourist guides in Brazil are fomented, while the collective organization of the class is stimulated to combat the precariousness of the work
