Strategic action fields
Abstract in English
Important international institutions like UNEP and World Bank have indicated fintechs (acronym in English for technological finance) as an instrument of social inclusion through financial inclusion. The objective of this research is to understand the effectiveness of this contribution. From the perspective of the theory of strategic action fields, fintechs were located and described as an emerging field, led by (challenging) actors who fight for a space occupied by dominants (traditional financial institutions). These challengers have new technological tools and business models that contribute to expand financial inclusion. It is, however, a relative inclusion, which in some cases increases access to credit and services, but does not always reach the poorest, nor does it always provide credit to everyone. The methodology used is based on qualitative research and in-depth interviews with five fintech managers and seven users. The results, after the bibliographic review and thematic analysis of the interviews, suggest that the aggregation of elements related to financial and social inclusion, in the way this process is defined by the various researchers and scholars on the topic, is not fully configured in the field
