Com as estimativas de aumento populacional, e a maior parte das pessoas morando no meio urbano, aumenta a pressão por alimentos, que são provenientes geralmente de locais distantes dessas regiões. Diante do problema de acesso à alimentos in natura e de qualidade, também buscando suprir outras necessidades, ressurge a prática de agricultura urbana, como um movimento social, e com características específicas em cada local. Em São Paulo (BR) e Detroit (EUA), diversas organizações atuam em prol da produção de alimentos dentro da cidade, ao mesmo tempo em que fomentam a elaboração e implantação de políticas públicas que favoreçam essa dinâmica, e em ambos os locais existe pelo menos uma política pública relacionada ao tema. Considerando que as políticas podem contribuir para a expansão e fortalecimento da AU, o objetivo da pesquisa foi analisar a contribuição dessas políticas para a prática de agricultura urbana, com olhares cruzados sobre os cenários das duas cidades. Para alcançar o objetivo, foi feita revisão bibliográfica, e complementarmente foram realizadas entrevistas com os atores chave do movimento social nas cidades estudadas. Como resultado, observa-se que apesar da existência das políticas, não há um apoio significativo e contínuo do poder público para a prática, ainda assim, houve avanço importante, alcançado pelos movimentos sociais que atuam nessas cidades

With population growth estimates, and most people living in urban areas, the pressure for food increases, which usually comes from distant places in these regions. Faced with the problem of access to fresh and quality food, also seeking to meet other needs, the practice of urban agriculture reappears, as a social movement, with specific characteristics in each place. In São Paulo (BR) and Detroit (USA), several organizations work in favor of food production within the city while promoting the development and implementation of public policies that favor this dynamic, and, in both places, there is at least one public policy related to this subject. Considering that policies can contribute to the expansion and strengthening of UA, the research aims to analyze the contribution of these policies to the practice of urban agriculture, with a cross-eyed look at the scenarios of the two cities. To achieve the object, a bibliographic review was carried out, and in addition, interviews were conducted with key actors of the social movement in the cities studied. As a result, it is observed that despite the existence of policies, there is no significant and continuous support from the public power for the practice, even so, there was important progress achieved by the social movements that work in these cities
