Abstract in English
The concern with a notion of culture that contribute to the definition of a Brazilian cultural identity has guided many studies since the 1920s in Brazil. The northeastern region, for having expressive popular manifestations, is considered by many researchers the place of emergence of this culture. From this premise that authors like Gilberto Freyre and Ariano Suassuna have developed an entire ideology that sought to preserve what they considered to be the essence of this culture. Therefore, much of the cultural production of the region was influenced by this notion that aimed to, in the search for elements of popular culture, the production of a high culture. In the late 1980s and early 1990s, Recife was still with an unstable social and economic framework, which allied to the dissatisfaction with this traditionalist view of culture, turned out to contributing to the emergence of the movement called Manguebeat. In that sense, this work propose to examine the relationship established in the cultural scene of Pernambuco in the 1990s between the movement Armorial and the movement Manguebeat , taking as principle that an opposition between established and outsiders settled there at that time. From the concepts developed by Norbert Elias in his book The Established and the Outsiders and the "field" concepts developed by Bourdieu in several of his works, we will cover how the hybridity of Manguebeat place it in that scene and how this feature provides elements that allows subverting the established order by Armorial movement.
