Abstract in English
The increasing visibility of women in international migration has gained relevance in recent decades. Along with this, studies have appeared about the agency of immigrant women in diverse social, political, cultural and economical spheres. In the city of São Paulo (Brazil), the presence of migrant women is also evident in collectives, organizations and migrant movements. This research seeks to analyze the narratives of migrant women concerning their experiences in participation in a collective. More specifically, it aims to identify the reasons that led them to participate in the collective and observe whether that participation changes the way they experience migration. To this end, a narrative-based research was developed, supported by semi-structured interviews with seven migrant women participating in Equipo de Base Warmis - Convergencia de las Culturas, a collective of migrant women from the city of São Paulo. The interviews were organized based on two thematic categories: the migratory experience and the meanings of participation in the collective. In turn, these categories were articulated with literature on gender and intersectionality, on transnational migrations, political transnationalism and migrant struggles. This articulation allows for visibility of the diversity of 'migrant woman' subjects and their collective political agency in transnational migratory struggles. Finally, it is noted that the collective functions as a space of contention as well as a support network for women who live in a place different from the one of their origin and that, in some cases, participation in the collective has meant transformations in their migratory experiences. In addition, it is observed that, through participation in the collective, similar identifications in terms of being a woman, being a migrant and being an activist are produced. At the same time, such procedurally and contingently constructed identifications do not cancel out their differences
