O design têxtil, frequentemente associado ao design de estampas no Brasil, abrange um amplo campo de atuação ao longo da cadeia produtiva de tecidos e de confecção. A partir da investigação bibliográfica sobre a formação acadêmica em design e a configuração do parque fabril nacional visto que não há curso superior específico em design têxtil no país, confirmou-se a prática realizada por profissionais de diferentes áreas do ramo que acabaram se qualificando pela própria experiência de mercado. Por meio de uma abordagem qualitativa de levantamento das descrições tanto sobre o termo «design têxtil» em guias de profissão e manuais de carreira, bem como definições teóricas de «design de superfície», identificou-se as possíveis áreas de trabalho; concluindo-se que, conforme a atividade se especializa em determinados elos da cadeia produtiva, surgem novas subdivisões no âmbito do design. Isso gera uma maior demanda por profissionais com formações especializadas e fortalece a sinergia entre os diversos designers participantes desse amplo fluxo, que contempla desde a origem das fibras têxteis até a fabricação do produto final

Textile design, often associated with print design in Brazil, covers a wide field of action along the production chain of fabrics and clothing. From based on bibliographical research on the academic education in design and the configuration of the national industrial plant - since there is no specific graduate degree in textile design in this in the country -, the practice performed by professionals from different areas of the industry who ended up qualifying themselves by their own market experience has been confirmed. Along a qualitative approach of investigating surveying descriptions for the term «textile design» in profession guides and career manuals, as well as theoretical definitions of «surface design», the possible areas of labouring have been identified; therefore, it has been assumed that as the activity specializes in certain links in the production chain, new subdivisions rise in the design. This generates a greater demand for professionals with specialized education and strengthens the synergy among the various parties participating in this large flow, which involves from the origin of textile fibers to the manufacture of the final product
