Grande parte das rações de equinos é peletizada, pois possibilita homogeneidade da mistura e facilita o transporte e armazenamento. O objetivo desse trabalho foi avaliar os parâmetros digestivos e comportamentais de equinos alimentados com rações peletizadas produzidas com milho de diferentes granulometrias (3, 5 e 8 mm). Foram utilizados oito cavalos machos castrados da raça Puro Sangue Árabe, 445,03 ± 5,23 kg e idade média de 120 ± 7,5 meses, com consumo de 1% de volumoso e 0,75% de concentrado, do peso corporal. Os tratamentos foram, F: Concentrado farelado com milho moído a 3 mm; P3: Concentrado peletizado com milho moído a 3 mm; P5: Concentrado peletizado com milho moído a 5 mm; P8: Concentrado peletizado com milho moído a 8 mm. Utilizando delineamento experimental quadrado latino duplo 4x4 contemporâneos, o experimento foi realizado em 4 fases de 20 dias, sendo 15 dias para adaptação a dieta e 5 para coletas de amostras, com 15 dias entre cada período para que não tenha efeito residual. Os dados foram submetidos a análise de variância e as médias comparadas pelo teste de Tukey, com nível de significância de 5%. Além disso as médias foram comparadas através de contrastes ortogonais: F x (P3 + P5 + P8); P3 x (P5 + P8); P3 x P8. As variáveis utilizadas foram: peso e escore de condição corporal (ECC), coeficiente de digestibilidade aparente (CDA) de MS, MO, PB, EE, MM, FDN, FDA e extrativos não nitrogenados (ENN), concentração ácidos graxos de cadeia curta (AGCC), ácido lático e pH das fezes, perfil sérico de colesterol, triglicérides e resposta de glicose e insulina pós prandial, comportamento alimentar e etograma. Os dados submetidos a analise variância, não apresentaram diferença (p>0,05) para os coeficientes de digestibilidade aparente (MS: 55,85%; MO 52,44%; PB 72,35%; EE: 62,57%; ENN: 62,94%; FDN: 45,94%; FDA: 41,10%; MM: 20,64%), AGCC (acetato: 3,05 mM: propionato: 0,18 mM; butirato: 0,03 mM) ácido lático (0,08 mM) e pH (6,47), perfil de colesterol (78,73 mg/dl) e triglicérides (17,07 mg/dl), resposta de glicose (464,12 mmol/L) e insulina (193,97 mmol/L) pós prandial e os parâmetros de comportamento alimentar e etograma (alimentação: 462,82 min.; água: 53,90 min.; ócio: 743,13 min.; fezes: 35,94 min.; urina: 25,16 min.; self-grooming: 24,53 min.; estereotipias: 34,06 min.; outros: 60,47 min.; consumo de água: 36,02 litros). O contraste F x (P3 + P5 + P8) apresentou diferença para tempo de urina (p=0,049), sendo maior para rações peletizadas, e maior tempo de estereotipias (p= 0,047) para ração farelada. As demais variáveis não se diferiram (p>0,05) entre os contrastes avaliados. Pode-se concluir que cavalos alimentados com rações peletizadas produzidas com milho com diferentes granulometrias não sofrem alteração nos parâmetros digestivos e comportamentais.

A large part of horse feed is pelleted, as it allows for homogeneity of the mixture and facilitates transport and storage. The objective of this work was to evaluate the digestive and behavioral parameters of horses fed with pelleted diets produced with corn of different grain sizes (3, 5 and 8 mm). Eight purebred Arabian geldings, 445.03 ± 5.23 kg and mean age of 120 ± 7.5 months, with consumption of 1% hay and 0.75% concentrate, of body weight were used. The treatments were, F: concentrate with corn ground to 3 mm; P3: concentrate pelletized with corn ground to 3 mm; P5: concentrate pelletized with corn ground to 5 mm; P8: concentrate pelletized with corn ground to 8 mm. Using a contemporary double 4x4 Latin square experimental design, the experiment was carried out in 4 phases of 20 days which 15 days for diet adaptation and 5 for sample collections, with 15 days between each period so that there is no residual effect. Data were subjected to analysis of variance and means compared by Tukey test, with a significance level of 5%. Furthermore, the means were compared using orthogonal contrasts: F x (P3 + P5 + P8); P3 x (P5 + P8); P3 x P8. The variables used were: body weight and body condition score (BCS), apparent digestibility coefficient (ADC) of DM, MO, CP, EE, MM, NDF, ADF and non-nitrogen extractives (NNE), concentration of short-chain fatty acids (SCFA), lactic acid and fecal pH, serum cholesterol profile, triglycerides and postprandial glucose and insulin response, feeding behavior and ethogram. Data submitted to analysis of variance showed no difference (p>0.05) for apparent digestibility coefficients (DM: 55.85%; MO 52.44%; CP 72.35%; EE: 62.57%; ENN: 62.94%; FDN: 45.94%; FDA: 41.10%; MM: 20.64%), AGCC (acetate: 3.05 mM: propionate: 0.18 mM; butyrate: 0.03 mM) lactic acid (0.08 mM) and pH (6.47), cholesterol profile (78.73 mg/dl) and triglycerides (17.07 mg/dl), glucose response (464.12 mmol/L) and postprandial insulin (193.97 mmol/L) and the parameters of feeding behavior and ethogram (food: 462.82 min.; water: 53.90 min.; idleness: 743.13 min.; feces: 35, 94 min.; urine: 25.16 min.; self-grooming: 24.53 min.; stereotypies: 34.06 min.; others: 60.47 min.; water consumption: 36.02 liters). The F x contrast (P3 + P5 + P8) showed a difference for urine time (p=0.049), with higher values for pelleted diets, and stereotyping time (p=0.047) for bran diets. The other variables did not differ (p>0.05) between the contrasts evaluated. It can be concluded that horses fed pelleted diets produced with corn with different grain sizes do not change their digestive and behavioral parameters.
