Keywords in Portuguese

Análise de redes sociais
Sistema de vigilância
Tuberculose bovina

Abstract in English
In regions with a low prevalence of bovine tuberculosis (bTB), slaughterhouse surveillance plays an important role in disease detection. Understanding the structure of the animal movement network and the relationship between production units and slaughterhouses is essential to estimate the coverage of the main strategy for the surveillance of bTB in the state of Mato Grosso, identifying premises and/or regions that are within the reach of this system and those that are not. This study aimed to evaluate the coverage of the bovine tuberculosis surveillance system based on slaughterhouses in Mato Grosso through the analysis of the cattle transit network of the years 2014 and 2015. The results showed that slaughterhouses had up to seven degrees of separation with premises in the network and that 45% of premises and 86.5% of the cattle in the state were covered by the system. This approach can be used to estimate the coverage of a slaughterhouse-based surveillance system for other diseases and other regions.
