Abstract in English
The aim of study the effects of the Crop-Livestock-Forest Integration (CLF) system on the physiological, endocrine, reproductive characteristics and on the body surface temperature of bulls of the Nellore and Canchim breeds raised in a tropical environment. 64 bulls were used, 32 Nellore (Bos indicus) and 32 Canchim (5/8 Bos taurus x 3/8 Bos indicus). The experiment was carried out during a period that included the seasons of Summer I, Autumn, Winter, Spring and Summer II in two different production systems: Full sun system (Group PS; 16 Nellore and 16 Canchim) and System with afforestation (Group iLPF; 16 Nellore and 16 Canchim. The experiment followed a 2x2 factorial design (two genotypes and two systems), with repeated measures over time. Monthly the bulls underwent evaluation of physiological parameters (respiratory rate and rectal temperature), serum hormone concentration ( cortisol, triiodothyronine and testosterone), andrological (testicular volume, homogeneity and hyperechogenicity of the testicular parenchyma, progressive sperm motility, sperm vigor, morphology, plasma membrane integrity and sperm cell chromatin fragmentation) and body surface temperature (right side, dorsum and scrotum. Bioclimatological variables were continuously monitored (air temperature, tempe). the temperature of the black globe, relative humidity and wind speed) and with these data, the Black Globe Temperature Index and Humidity and Radiant Thermal Load were calculated. The results showed that the CLF system was effective in minimizing adverse environmental effects on the physiological, endocrine, reproductive and thermoregulatory characteristics of beef bulls.
