Abstract in English
This study develops the thesis that scientific communication is a particular kind of dialogic relationship - as understood in the Bakhtinian sense as an axiological-semantic relationship -between the scientific sphere and other spheres of human activity, including the higher levels of the ideology of the everyday, whose materiality is found in the utterances of various genres (reports, articles, editorials, books, novels, exhibitions etc.). In this dialogue the communicating author takes the position of the skilled mediator between the different types of scientific knowledge and the consideration of the "perceptible background of responsive understanding" of the recipient, constituted by what the communicator assumes he or she dominates and, above all, does not dominate. Thus the study does not examine a genre or a sphere, but rather the dialogical relations of the scientific sphere with other spheres of human activity or culture. Whereas scientific communication is made in syncretic genres, that is, those that have a heterogeneous semiological composition as they are formed by languages which are verbal and non-verbal (photos, graphics, illustrations etc..), the interrelationship between verbal and visual languages is formed from a viewpoint which enables us to "create our own object of research", which are the forms of the dissemination of science. Given the wide range of genres and spheres through which scientific communication is made, specialized journals in which the scientific sphere takes on some form of immediate participation, and therefore Pesquisa Fapesp [Fapesp Research], Scientific American Brasil e Ciência Hoje [Science Today] were chosen as the object of research. The text and the verbal-visual dimension of the peritext of the utterances of the scientific dissemination of these three popular journals enabled various modalities of dialogical relations to be established: firstly, the dialogue of the scientific sphere with other constituted ideological spheres and also the ideology of everyday life; secondly, the duplication of the explanation of scientific concepts and procedures on two levels of expression, providing for a better understanding for the reader; thirdly, the definition of the referents or the objects of the sense of the utterances of scientific dissemination marked by the most varied value intonations; the creation of various chronotopes (from the field and laboratory, mythical, cosmic); and finally the synthesis of the global thematic content of the utterances in dialogue with presumed readers of the publications. The analysis of the verbal-visual materiality of the utterances allowed for the identification of the arquitectonic form of the three journals: that of Pesquisa Fapesp is the dissemination and valuing of the research produced by the Brazilian scientific community, especially in the state of Sao Paulo, in order to show its benefits and applications to the productive sector and the general public; that of Scientific American Brasil is its didactics and explanation of scientific knowledge and is characterized by its diversity, plurality and heterogeneity of its formulations; and that of Ciência Hoje is in asking the scientific sphere to reply to the important questions of Brazilian reality, thereby actively participating in the process of the solution of the social, economic, political and cultural problems of Brazil.
