Abstract in English
This thesis systematizes critically, with a contextualized theoretical articulation, my work over fifteen years investigating the influence of diabetic peripheral neuropathy in somatosensory sensitivity in skeletal muscle function and biomechanics of locomotion. Most notably, they will be discussed in this thesis studies related to this subject produced in the eleven years as a professor at the University of São Paulo. The purpose of this document is to demonstrate the state of knowledge regarding the evaluation of sensory and motor impairments diabetic patients with peripheral neuropathy, and biomechanics of locomotion. Thus, this systematic text, will initially presented a literature review based on epidemiological, metabolic and clinical aspects of diabetic neuropathy and then will be presented the contributions made by studies published in specialized scientific journals on aspects: clinical evaluation of diabetic neuropathy, role of physical therapy in diabetic neuropathy, contributions of biomechanics in the diagnosis, prevention and therapy control of diabetic neuropathy. And finally, the comments on the contributions gathered in this text and the prospects for future research are revealed are drawn
