Abstract in English
Although linked primarily to the field of political thought, Hannah Arendt's writings has arisen great interest among educators in recent decades. This remarkable impact of her essay on the crisis in education can be attributed, at least partially, to the originality of her analytical perspective and to the strength of her criticism of modern pedagogies. Her reflections on education, although rare, represent a radical innovation in relation to how the pedagogical discourses tend to analyze, for example, the links between education and politics or the problem of the significance of authority as a structuring element in educational relationships. In spite of this growing influence of her thought on educational matters, many of her arguments have been misunderstood due to the fact that they presuppose a deep familiarization with her complex theoretical perspective and conceptual network. The present research aims at elucidating the underlying conceptual frame to Arendt's efforts to understand the peculiar impact that the breaking up of tradition has had on education in its specific task: the initiation of the young ones (the new-comers) in a common material and symbolic inheritance, whose commitment implies an effort to renew to give durability to our common world. But more than just commenting her reflections on education, the essays here gathered also intend to analyze a complex set of problems that emerge from the dialogue between the reading of the works of Arendt and dilemmas and problems of educating children and train teachers in contemporary world. Therefore, they evoke other philosophers and experiences, always with the purpose of expanding the reflections of Hannah Arendt to new fields and problems, such as the links between educational activity and freedom or the meaning of humanistic education. More than the literal content of her writings on the subject, I have tried to be faithful to the attitude for which Arendt's reflections invite us: the exercise of thought as a way to reconcile ourselves with the experience of living in a world in which the past ceased to shed light on the future and we find themselves compelled to seek new categories and concepts to understand our present condition.
