O estudo de reações entre íons pesados mostrou que elas apresentam modos de reação mais variados que as reações de íons leves. Além dos bem conhecidos casos limites, de reação direta e de núcleo composto, as reações entre íons pesados apresentam processos adicionais como: reações profundamente inelásticas, fusão incompleta e quase-fissão. Os limites entre os diferentes processos não são bem definidos, no entanto, pode-se dizer que as reações tipo fusão ou fissão correspondem a parâmetros de impacto pequenos e superposição grande entre os núcleos envolvidos, enquanto o processo profundamente inelástico corresponde a parâmetros de impacto maiores, evoluindo para as reações quase-elásticas, que acontecem em colisões rasantes.

Abstract in English
The study of reactions between heavy ions showed that they have more varied modes of reaction that the light ion reactions. Besides the well-known limiting cases of direct reaction and composite core, the reactions between heavy ions present additional processes such as deep inelastic reactions, incomplete fusion and quasi-fission. The boundaries between the different processes are not well defined, however, we can say that the fission or fusion type reactions correspond to small impact parameters and large overlapping between the nuclei involved, while the deep inelastic process corresponds to higher impact parameters , progressing to the quasi-elastic reactions, which occur in low-flying collisions.
