O presente texto tem a finalidade de sistematizar a produção científica da professora de 1993 a 1998 e de 2005 a 2010 na área de controle e prevenção à poluição da água e do solo causada por resíduos industriais perigosos, sendo esta uma de suas principais linhas de pesquisa. O texto também descreve as atividades desenvolvidas na Companhia de Tecnologia de Saneamento Ambiental (CETESB) e na Secretaria de Meio Ambiente do Estado de São Paulo, de 1999 a 2003, onde a professora teve a oportunidade de colocar em prática os conhecimentos adquiridos na Universidade. Inicialmente, é feita uma descrição sucinta de cada pesquisa desenvolvida pela professora e por sua equipe. A seguir, é mostrada a contribuição do trabalho na época em que foi realizado. São também discutidos os erros cometidos. Em seguida, são interpretados os resultados obtidos a luz dos conhecimentos atuais e finalmente, são relatadas as lições aprendidas ao longo de vinte anos de pesquisa e aplicação na engenharia.

This text aimed at the systematization of the scientific production of the author from 1993 to 1998 and from 2005 to 2010 in the research area of control and prevention of water and soil pollution caused by hazardous industrial wastes. The text also describes the activities at São Paulo Environmental Protection Agency (CETESB) and São Paulo State Secretariat of the Environment from 1999 to 2003, where the author had the chance to put into practice the knowledge acquired at São Paulo University. Initially, there is a brief description of each research project developed by the author and her team. It also discussed the mistakes made. Then the results are interpreted in light of current knowledge and finally, the author describes the lessons learned over twenty years of research and engineering with her contribution at the time related.
